Smiles make smiles
by Nirmalie de Silva
A desire to meet the child I sponsor under the “Smiles” program run by SVS was a driving force behind our family trip from Australia to Sri Lanka in September 2006. The journey from Colombo to Deniyaya was a challenging experience due to the lack of good transport facilities, but we finally arrived at our destination with the help of kind villagers who offered us their truck to travel the last twelve kilometers of the journey. There were “Smiles” all around as I finally met my sponsored child Dulanji and her family.
I was finally able to see for myself how much difference my contribution to SVS makes to Dulanji and her family. The value of this organization lies in the fact that a majority of the money goes straight to the sponsored family. I am grateful that I can keep in contact with Dulanji through writing letters in her own language. I am very happy to think that she will benefit from the money given which will provide a better education and the supply of daily needs.
