SVS has been establishing a network of preschool teachers to ensure that all preschool teachers get the information they are entitled to receive. As the area groups have expanded there has been a need to form smaller groups to function more effectively. SVS has encouraged the formation of small groups to build and strengthen the area preschools. In 2002, approximately 250 preschools formed small groups and are now working together to create better learning environments for children.
Here is an example of how the small groups can help each other. Last spring, one of the Buttala area small group teachers received a first aid box. The particular teacher got this first aid kit from an election candidate (this is common in Sri Lanka). This teacher then took all the other small group members to the election office. Now all the preschools have first aid boxes.
